Karyn and Jon decided to play some video games until his dad came home. It wasn’t until later that evening that he arrived. As it was New Year’s Eve, Karyn’s parents also joined them for the celebratory dinner and to see the new year in.
Jon waited impatiently at the table as they ate the meal, waiting for his mom to bring up the subject about his resolution. Eventually the time came as his mother spoke up.
“Roger, honey... Jon has a very interesting idea for his New Year’s resolution, and I think that it’s one that we should all try.” She told him as she looked around the table. Karyn braced herself, hoping that Jon’s dad or even her own parents would see reason.
“Oh?” His dad managed between mouthfuls. “What’s that son?”
Jon glanced at his mother as he tried to work up the courage to actually announce his idea. His mother nodded in reassurance. “I want to spend the next year as a girl.”
Karyn watched in amazement as Jon’s father dropped his fork in surprise with his mouth open, with her parents in equal amounts of shock and then, suddenly, it was like what happened with Jon’s mom. Their eyes glazed over for a bit, and then, out of the blue, they were really excited about the idea.
“You know what, son? Your mother is right, that’s a _great idea. I think that we all should do it, see what it’s like living as a member of the opposite gender.”
Karyn’s parents nodded in agreement. Mikey and Zoe seemed eager to try it as well. Karyn just stared at them in disbelief.
“You can’t be serious!?” she blurted out before sinking her hands into her face. What has gotten into these people!?
Linda frowned. “I’m not sure what you mean, Karyn? I think that it’s a great idea, and I would have thought that you of all people would be more supportive of it.”
“What’s that supposed to mean?” Karyn asked, puzzled.
“Aren’t you always complaining how men have it easier? You’ve always said how you were tired of men hitting on you because of the blonde hair and the boobs. Wouldn’t you like it if men had to deal with stuff like that for once?”
Karyn was surprised. Linda did have a point; ever since she had made that accidental wish about her hair and boobs, Karyn had been complaining about boys like Steve Farber hitting on her. She figured that the stone had probably made it so that she had always been complaining about it.
“I still find it weird,” Karyn muttered, crossing her arms and slouching in her chair. It seemed like she wasn’t going to win this one.
