"What's with the blindfold?" football player Randy Goodman asked his jock buddy Tom Welles.
"Hell if I know," Tom answered.
They watched from the bleachers as Tiffany Sanders (one of the current cheerleaders and best friend of Sarah McMillan) tied a blindfold around Sarah's head.
Like usual, the entire jock crowd showed up for cheerleading tryouts. The way those girls moved ... it was almost erotic. Or at least, in their minds. Watching the tryouts was always a pleasure for them. And they didn't have to pay for it either.
At the side of the football field, Zoe Gibson (Jon's Goth sister) curled her lip in disgust at the sight. At least a hundred people showed up for this stupid event. She even spotted her brother Jon and his friend Karyn walking towards the bleachers.
"Come on, Zoe," her friend Athena said. "Let's get out of here."
"Gladly," she answered. Then she and her two friends Athena and Zelda started walking home.
Even from that distance, they could hear Sarah McMillan making her announcement. "Now, let's get this party started! Whoever I point at will become a new member of the cheerleading squad!"
Zoe's attention drifted back towards the football field. Did Sarah say what she thought she said? What kind of stupid selection process was that?
On the bleachers, the hundred or so spectators looked at each other, confused. What was Sarah talking about?
Sarah smiled, then turned herself around and around so that she wouldn't have a clue which direction she was facing, then she pointed.
