"Our first recruit is ... Athena DeVries!" Tiffany announced, as Sarah was spinning around.
"What the hell?" Tom uttered. "That witch is gonna be a cheerleader?" He waited for his friend Randy to say something in return. When he didn't, Tom turned and saw that Randy was standing up. "Hey, sit down."
"I got picked," Randy said.
"What? What the hell are you talking about?" Tom asked. He turned and looked at Sarah. She was pointing directly at Randy.
"Sarah chose me. Me."
At first, Tom thought that Randy was stunned and confused. But then he took a look at the jock's face. Randy was pleased. He was actually pleased that he was picked for the cheerleading squad. What the hell was wrong with him?
Randy turned and smiled at Tom, then ran down to the football field.
Tom stared the entire time, trying to figure out what happened to his friend. As it turned out, he wasn't the only one. Almost everyone sitting on the bleachers was trying to figure out why a guy (especially a guy like Randy Goodman) would be so excited by the idea of becoming a cheerleader.
As Sarah put her blindfold back on and began to spin around, Tiffany announced "Our second recruit is ... Randy Goodman!"
At the announcement, Randy jumped up and down and clapped his hands in excitement. He was acting like a total ditz, just like the first recruit Athena.
Sarah stopped turning around, then pointed.
