Jon was relieved to have gotten through the day. Nothing interesting had happened, and for once he was rejoicing the fact that the day had been so boring. After his wish the day before, he was sure that something big was going to happen. But it hadn't, and now he was home and free to relax.
Jon was just getting comfortable on the couch when the doorbell rang. Nobody else was home, so he reluctantly got up to answer the door. He was surprised to see a rather dashing man in a suit and a fedora. He was holding a briefcase.
"Good afternoon sir, I represent the Tristero Insurance Company. I'd like to introduce you to our line of insurance policies. Home, car, life, magic, flood... you name it, we carry it!"
"No thanks," Jon said, not really paying attention to what the man was saying. When was the last time somebody went door to door selling insurance, anyway?
"But your whole family could be at risk! You really should think about protecting your loved ones from the unexpected."
"I think we're covered," Jon said, growing more annoyed.
"It's a dangerous world out there. Anything could happen. Don't you want to be prepared?"
There was something odd about the way the man said "anything." He was starting to sound a bit crazy, and Jon was starting to wonder if this guy was really selling anything.
"I said I'm not interested!"
"But you really-" before the man could finish his sentence, Jon slammed the door... right on the man's foot. He let out a terrible yell, and Jon noticed something else unusual. The man's eyes began glowing, like white-hot embers. This was certainly no ordinary salesman.
"Are you okay?" Jon asked, starting to feel a sense of dread. This must have been from his wish.
"You'll be sorry you did that," the man said, his voice still eerily calm despite his otherworldly eyes. Jon had an idea of what this person might be capable of... and he knew it was trouble.
"W-what are you going to do to me?"
"Nothing."
"What?"
"I'm not going to do anything to you. I told you, your whole family could be at risk. And so could your friends. To show you what I mean, I'll be making some... let's say 'adjustments' to the people you know."
"What kind of adjustments?"
"That's for me to know and you to find out. Just know that things are going to get a whole lot more interesting for you." With that the man turned and began walking away. Before he got to the sidewalk, he stopped and turned.
"Oh, by the way... I wouldn't bother trying your wishing stone. It's useless against my power." He waved goodbye to Jon, who could only stand in the doorway in disbelief.
