Brandon's salvation came in the form of yet another hair pin, this one gold with a blue beaded head. He hastily stuck it in his hair, not so much out of a conscious desire to gain the power it granted but by sheer compulsion, and turned back to the task at hand.
The dilemma of the bombs remained, but Brandon recalled that the last fight he had posed a similar problem: he couldn't use fire then because of all the water. If he could somehow harness water, he should be able to extinguish or at least contain the blasts from the monsters!
With that in mind, Brandon turned his focus upon the creatures, willing for water to form there. Sure enough, a ball of water materialized around the creatures, causing it to wither and then fade into spirits.
Satisfied by his success against the first one, Brandon turned and repeated the process with the other three, hitting the bombs with surprising accuracy and efficiency.
Once all the monsters were defeated, Brandon basked in triumph before turning to resume his journey. He looked down the path, a winding path that nevertheless invariably led back to the village. Those people were expecting him, Brandon realized, especially Wakka. It also occurred to him that he could venture deeper into the jungle, a journey that would doubtlessly be difficult, but Brandon now felt that he could handle any fiends between his four powers.
Brandon sat at the impasse, too busy weighing his options to notice as his long back hair twined itself into a trio of long braids that hung from the bun where his four pins rested, not aware of just how important this decision was.
