Brandon stumbled towards the monster, or 'fiend', as the villager called it, wondering what exactly the villagers were expecting him to do. The creature itself was like nothing he had ever seen. Alright, maybe a little like that jello at his school cafeteria. It was a gelatinous blob, white and fading to a greyish blue as it reached towards the creature's 'foot'. Its mound was shaped to form a crude face and pair of fins, with frost pouring out of its mouth. The air seemed colder around the fiend, and things seemed to be freezing solid within its proximity.
Brandon realized he had no idea how to stop this monster, but the villagers were counting on him, so he had to do something. Picking off a rock off the ground, he lobbed it at the creature. The stone hit the fiend with a squelch, but was simply absorbed into the creature's body and seemed to have no real effect.
What the rock did succeed in doing, however, was getting the fiend's attention, the blob turned to face Brandon, and he felt as the air around him dropped rapidly in temperature. On instinct, he threw himself to the side, just as the air where he had been standing froze into a small chunk of ice.
Brandon hit the ground, scrambling to his feet before the monster could try to freeze him again. He spotted a gold pin with red bead head. Caught up in the moment, he figured it must have been his, and stuck it into his head of black hair, which was thickening and lengthening visibly.
Standing up, Brandon realized he wasn't holding the moogle doll anymore. He must have dropped it when he went to dodge. A feeling of urgency washed over Brandon. He needed that doll, it was important, though why he couldn't say. It wasn't anywhere nearby...
A squeaking sound turned Brandon's eyes towards the fiend. Between the gelatinous monster and himself was the doll, and not only that but the doll was moving, completely on its own, sprinting towards the creature. It charged headlong at the beast, its movements jerky but quick, leaping in the air to launch itself at the fiend headfirst...
