"Stop this!" a new voice yelled out. Jon, Tina, Karyn, Nadine, and the rest of the new Goths turned and saw Athena DeVries, the best friend of Jon's sister Zoe. Athena was already a Goth girl and from what Jon heard from his sister, she was also into the occult, but Jon had no way of knowing if that was true or not.
Nadine sneered at her. "I thought you of all people would want this."
"Forcing people to be something they don't want to be is not something I want," Athena said. "Choice is very important to me and my friends."
"But they want it now. Isn't that right?" she asked her new friends.
One of the boys (Jon thought his name was David, but he wasn't sure) smiled. He now looked completely different. Instead of his T-shirt, jeans and sneakers, he now wore a fishnet shirt, a long black leather skirt, and black leather boots. His hair was black and spiky, and his skin was pale white. He also wore black make-up and had several piercings. By his own original opinion, he was a freak. But now, just like the others, he felt differently about that. He hated his old life and wanted to embrace his new one.
Athena grasped a small crystal pendant that hung from her neck and appeared to be muttering something. But whatever she was doing, apparently it didn't work, because when her eyes opened, her face fell.
Nadine looked pleased, then turned and reached out for more people to touch.
