The door opened and someone walked in. It was Richard's roommate Jeff.
"Hey, dude, I was wondering ..." Jeff started to say, before he suddenly stopped and stared. "What the hell are you wearing?"
"My costume," Richard said, sourly.
Jeff bursted out in laughter.
"Okay, yeah. I look ridiculous. But it's the only costume I could find."
"That's why you should never procrastinate, man," Jeff said. "At least, for something like this." He fell into another laughing fit, before finally settling down permanently. "Sorry, dude. It's just so ridiculous looking."
"What are you going as?"
"A werewolf. I got the costume about a week ago. It's cool enough looking." He smiled, feeling more laughter coming on, thinking about how Richard's costume looked (compared to his own), but he stifled it. "So, uh ... is that a real bow and arrow?" he asked.
Richard picked up the miniature bow and arrow out of the box. "Nah, I think it's just a prop," he said. He pulled the arrow back and let it go, thinking that it would just tumble to the floor. But it didn't. It flew straight at his roommate and hit him in the leg.
"Ow! What the hell?!"
"Sorry, Jeff. I ... I didn't mean to. I thought it was just a prop."
"Man, that hurts," he said, pulling the arrow out. It was barely lodged in his leg. And when it was gone, so was the pain.
"Sorry," Richard said again. He didn't want to tick off his roommate. Jeff was the reason that Richard even got invited to Kim's party. Being a "ladies man" Jeff was able to get into all the parties, but Richard, on the other hand ...
Jeff just sighed and shook his head. "Forget about it. It was just an accident. No harm done. The pain is even gone." He walked to the window and looked out onto the campus. The sun was going down, but he could still see quite a few people milling about. One person in particular caught his eye, and when he looked at that person, his eyes filled with a type of love that Richard had never seen on Jeff's face.
"You okay, Jeff?" Richard asked. He had no idea that the cupid arrow had just affected Jeff in a magical way. Jeff was now madly in love with the person he saw out the window. But who was the person that Jeff saw?
