"I can't explain it, Zoe, but something feels different," Athena said. "Ever since you got your inheritance through the mail, I've sensed a magical presence."
"You think what I got from my grandpa is magical?" Zoe asked, sounding a bit skeptical.
"Maybe. Or maybe it's something the rest of your family got. You all got your inheritances at the same time, right?"
"Yeah. But that's ridiculous. Why would anything from my grandfather be ... magical?"
"I don't know. I don't really know him as well as you do. But wait ... didn't you say he was an archeologist?" Athena asked.
"Yeah, so?"
"Well, maybe he found something on one of his digs that has magical properties. Maybe he didn't even know that it was magic."
Zoe shook her head. "Athena, I know you're really into the occult and stuff, but it's really hard to wrap my head around this. Are you saying that someone in this house has a magical artifact and doesn't even know it?"
"Or maybe they do know it. What's the harm in taking a look at what everyone else got?"
Zoe shrugged. "Well, I think whatever Jon got is in his bedroom. But I think he's still in there with Karyn."
"Then we'll wait until he leaves."
Elizabeth was the first to wake. Then she woke the others. They were all confused, as they didn't understand why they were asleep. Certainly, their day wasn't that exhausting. Elizabeth looked down at the plans sitting on the coffee table and suddenly had a thought upon seeing them.
"This is all wrong. What were we thinking?" she said to the others. "How could we have thought that shutting down the Pussy Kat Klub was a good idea? We need to help those dancers. Not destroy their lives." She paused for a moment. "We need a new plan."
The four other members of the Concerned Women's Society nodded in agreement.
The old man parked his car, then headed over to the Ferguson house, his briefcase in hand. And once he got the front door, he rang the doorbell and waited for a response.
