The principal, Mr. Jeffries, walked onstage and approached the podium. He cleared his throat into the microphone, and the muttered conversations in the auditorium fell silent.
"Attention students of Peabody High. I have called you all here today because our school faces an unprecedented population crisis. This school was built to house roughly 1000 students; our current enrollment is closer to 2500. We had hoped to receive grant funding to expand the campus, but with budget cutbacks at the state level, our already meager budget has shrunk yet again. This means that we no longer have adequate funding to continue running at current capacity; unless we take action, the school will have to close. However, after consulting with senior faculty members, we have found a solution."
