Rosaria's wish could be granted in several different ways. There was no outward indication of what had changed, so Bethany quickly grabbed the stone from Rosaria's hand.
"What did you do?" she asked. "That was a very careless wish, it could be granted any number of ways, some of which might affect many other people.
"I, um, I wasn't thinking, I just said what was in my heart, I'm sorry," Rosaria stammered.
Bethany held up the stone and stated "I wish to know just how Rosaria's wish was granted." The stone burned bright once more, and suddenly Bethany knew that the wish had eliminated the existence of an Exchange program! Instead, her mind flashed over news reports of 3 kids in Colorado and 3 in Texas that had been abducted by a mad scientist testing a brain transfer machine he'd invented. Police had trailed him to a warehouse and rushed in just as he'd finished swapping the last of them. Shocked, the scientist had pulled a gun and the police opened fire, not only killing him but accidentally blowing up the mind-switching machine. They were all permanently stuck in their new bodies, including Bethany!
