Jon headed down to the basement and knocked on the door of Room 21. When there was no answer, he opened the door himself and walked in. The lights were dim, but he could still see.
On the far end of the room stood Biff Meadows, captain of the football team and decidedly the most popular and handsome boy at Jon's school, or at least that's what the girls thought.
"Biff! What's going on?" Jon demanded to know.
But he wouldn't answer. And when Jon got closer, he discovered why: he was tied up and gagged.
Before Jon could ask him why, though, he felt someone hit him in the back of the head. And a second later, he was on the floor and out cold.
