Jon glanced towards his bed, looking thoughtful.
"What is it?" Karyn asked.
He knelt down next to his bed and grabbed the box containing the wishing stone, which was stashed in a hidden compartment behind it. Then he sat on his bed and opened the box, removing the stone.
"Something just occurred to me," Jon said, looking closely at the stone.
"You think the stone still works?" Karyn asked. "But you said that Ms. Fletcher ..."
"Maybe she lied," Jon said. "With all that power she apparently has, she probably didn't think that I'd go ahead and try to use the stone anyway."
"What do you mean by 'apparently'? Didn't you say that she turned Steve and Jason into girls?" Karyn asked. "I'd call that power."
"Yeah, but she had to be in the same room to do it. The stone is all the way across town. Can she change something that far away?"
"Well, you said that she knew when we were using the stone," Karyn pointed out. "And we weren't right next to her then."
"Yeah, but sensing something from far away doesn't mean that you can affect it far away. If I heard an airplane taking off from far away, that doesn't mean that I can interact with it."
"Yeah, but we're talking about magic here, right?" Karyn asked.
"Reality hacking."
"Whatever. It's all about using your mind and stuff, right? There is no physical interaction."
Jon sighed. "We could be arguing about this for hours. The easiest thing to do would be to just make a wish and see if it comes true."
"But what if you can and Ms. Fletcher tries to stop you ... permanently? You already said that she can sense whenever the stone is used. What's to stop her from showing up at your house and taking the stone from you?"
"Those are good concerns, but I still need to know. I need to know if the stone still works. And I need to know how much power Ms. Fletcher really has."
