"It's not serious is it?" Cinder asked, worried.
"No, it's nothing like that!" Lilith shook her head. "You've inherited your mother's eyes, honey. That's all. Part of your attraction to this Jon boy could be because he's been touched by magic."
"What? What does that mean?"
"Back in the day, we used to call it being 'hot-blooded'. That boy holds a fascination for women like us that can only come from someone who's been close to, or affected by, powerful magic in the past. It's something I figured out for myself after I met your father."
"Mom are you saying my feelings for Jon aren't they're not real?"
"No, they're real, but they stronger too," Lilith stroked her daughter's hair. "There, there. I didn't mean to frighten you. Your attraction is real alright. Just be careful around that hot-blooded boy. Don't lose your judgment and try not to be impulsive. And definitely don't let him take advantage of your feelings."
"Oh, Jon wouldn't do that. I'm sure of it."
"I know he wouldn't, sweetie," Lilith said with determination, "because if he does, he'll have to answer to me."
