It was a sight Jon had missed, even though, from her perspective, she hadn't been away very long. While normally it was a comforting one, Jon was apprehensive. She was coming home, after all, but in many ways, not to the one he had left that March evening.
"Is Mikey home?" Jon asked Zoe as she unlocked the front door.
"No, he's at a friend's, and I think he'll be there until dinnertime." Jon looked at the clock: it was 1:30. "You look overwhelmed."
"No kidding. Didn't realize they were remodeling half the house."
"Felt it was time to remodel the kitchen and their bedroom. That's also why they decided to go on vacation, too."
Jon was not quite sure what to think. It was almost as if she'd stopped existing, even though she'd been in the hospital this whole time. My luck? Or is that just how things are? she thought.
"So, what else has changed?" she asked apprehensively.
"Well... They made two seasons of Quantum Leap, your favorite show." Zoe looked at Jon. She was exhausted, and come to think of it, probably hungry, too. "Want to order a pizza and we can watch and chat?"
The idea of normalcy—any degree of it—was appealing at this moment. "Sure, why not?"
