Richard was glad to have his oldest son home. He hadn't admitted it to anyone, not even his wife, but when Jon went into the hospital in the coma, Richard had almost lost it. He'd stopped sleeping, his appetite went off, so filled with grief he was that he thought he might go insane.
When Jon had miraculously awoken, it was like a new lease on life. Suddenly he could notice things like the warmth of the day, the beauty of his wife; hope had returned to his heart. Now, a week later, he had his boy back in his home. Sure, Jon had seemed quiet and withdrawn on the ride home, but he'd been through a lot. Richard knew that young men need space to get their bearings sometimes.
When Jon had bolted upstairs, Richard and Zoe took advantage of the moment to explain the home care situation to Linda, Richard's lovely wife. As Zoe went over the steps that Dr. Mitchell had explained, Richard reapplied a coat of pink lipstick to his plump, lush lips and thought about how long he should give Jon space for. Linda had explained that Karyn had shown up earlier, wanting to wait for her best friend up in his room, so Jon wasn't alone, which was good. Too much space could have the opposite effect of what Richard wanted.
Slipping off one stiletto heeled shoe, Richard massaged his stocking foot. His feet had been bothering him that afternoon, but not more than usual after a long day. Maybe he'd book a pedicure appointment for the weekend and have a little pampering.
Realizing that Zoe and Linda had moved onto other topics, Richard slipped upstairs to check in on his son. He cracked open the door to peek, not wanting to interrupt the discourse between the two friends. Karyn, in her striking nurse costume, was walking toward Jon in a very friendly manner.
"Maybe I could help you out with that," the girl said with a smile.
As Richard wondered what she was talking about, he quietly closed the door and stood in the hallway, taking a moment to adjust his bikini top before going downstairs.
