The ride home proved to be uneventful. Jon had kept tight control on his mind, forcing it not to wander. He wasn't sure how long he could keep it up, but seeing Dr. Mitchell wiggle around the ward as Jon and his family had left had inspired him to work as hard as he could.
His father drove, as he usually did. Not once did he hesitate or act in any way to say that the stiletto heels he wore were a hindrance. No quick accelerations, no jerky stops; if Jon didn't know better, he would have guessed that his father had been wearing high heels his whole life.
Zoe had wanted to sit with him in the back seat, but Jon had insisted that he sit alone, forcing his sister into the front. The new sexed up version of Zoe was too dangerous to sit next to. Jon's mind might have wandered as he stared at her legs, or maybe at her cleavage, or even if he'd remembered their encounter earlier.
So Jon rode alone, staring at his feet, careful not to stare out the window in case a hot woman came into view. When he was asked if he wanted something to eat on the way home, he declined, saying that he was full of hospital food. When they stopped for gas, Jon stayed in the car. Even when Jon needed to go to the bathroom, Jon held it.
When they finally pulled into the driveway of their blue split-level, Jon was proud of himself. He practically ran out of the car, bolted up the stairs, and locked himself into the bathroom. After relieving himself, he was happy to find that Zoe and his father were downstairs talking to his mother. Jon slipped quietly from the bathroom, across the hallway, and into his bedroom.
After locking the door behind him, Jon turned around to discover that he wasn't alone in the room. Crouched beside his bed, wearing a sexy nurse's uniform, was Karyn, his best friend.
"Shit," he said.
