Soon after he was left alone, Jon drifted into a deep slumber. He was, after all, recovering from a major trauma, and so required a lot of rest. The night passed without incident, doctors and nurses coming in and checking on him, but he did not awaken for any of it.
When he did wake up, the sun was beating down on him from the window. It looked like it would be a nice warm day. He felt disappointed that his dreams had been so mundane, but he guessed the previous day had been so sexually charged that he had gotten it out of his system. The bra that had been left on his night table had been cleaned up during the night. Pity, he thought to himself, that would have made a nice trophy.
He guessed he had slept through the doctor's morning rounds because he found himself left alone for a long time. He flipped through the channels on the television above his bed, but soon found himself bored.
Bored and lonely.
His head flopped against the pillow behind him. How long would he have to stay in the hospital? He didn't even know his diagnosis, so it could be anyone's guess. He didn't want to get out and find out that he should have stayed under supervision, but he was sure that the loneliness of this place would soon drive him batty.
There was a soft tap on the door.
Jon turned his head and saw a cute girl a year or two older than him. She was carrying a pink duffel bag.
"Are you Jon?" Her voice had a sweet quality to it, like innocence and playfulness rolled into one. It instantly brought a smile to his face.
"Yeah," he answered, unsure who this girl was.
"I'm Ally, it looks like we're going to be roommates."
Jon's eyes darted over to the empty bed near the window. He hadn't thought that there'd be anyone there during his recovery, but he now realized that hospitals can't just waste beds. That wouldn't be efficient.
"Oh, uh, welcome!" he awkwardly replied. "I'd get up, but they said I should stay in bed until they gave me permission."
"Don't worry about it," she crossed the room and shook his hand, "We'll have plenty of time to get to know each other."
As Ally walked around his bed and threw her duffel on the bed next to his, he watched her gait. She had a sway in her walk that he didn't mind at all.
He had to ask. "So, what are you in for?"
She chuckled. "Observation. I had some dizzy spells in class and they said they wanted to watch me for a few days. I thought it was a bit much, but they insisted. Said they even had a room open for me that would be perfect. And here I am!"
Jon smiled. What luck! Just when he was feeling lonely a cute girl with probably nothing wrong with her is assigned to his room. How much better could this hospital get?
