"What do we do now?" Zoe asked her brother.
That was a good question, and one that Jon couldn't immediately answer. They couldn't stay in the store forever. They had to leave at some point. But when? When would it be safe? Jon had no idea.
About fifteen minutes later, Zoe stood up from the floor. "Jon, maybe someone should go out and see what's what. I don't want to just sit around here all day."
"Okay." Jon stood up and walked to the store front. He couldn't see anyone out the windows. It was so weird to see the mall all lit up but totally deserted. "I'll go. You stay here. I'll come back for you. Okay?"
"Sure."
Jon opened the door and walked out into the mall and Zoe locked the door behind him.
