"I wish that for the next twenty minutes, my time, I would be a thousand times faster but could act normally and safely."
It was a good wish; a wish worthy to be made by the wishing stone, rather than on it. DeMorrell's face, peeking between the blankets, barely showed a frown that in a few more seconds might have led to his full realization that something was happening that he didn't want. But it halted. He, Jon, Karyn, and everything else was frozen into place. No air conditioner, no electrical hums, no birds or insects, not even the beating of anyone's heart except Wendi's own. It didn't matter whether DeMorrell was vulnerable to magic. After all, the magic wasn't affecting him. It was affecting her.
Wendi bent down to retrieve Jon's discarded backpack. There were a few useful things in that... Ah, that'd do. She retrieved two cans of soda and said "I wish that Jon and Karyn are minions because they're drugged, and the drug's antidote is Inca Cola. Now, I wish that they're fast like me, but are very thirsty and want to drink these."
Karyn suddenly began to move. Sort of. She kept standing still, since she had been ordered to, but moved a bit like any other person standing in place would. Jon looked confused, since she was moving but was being straddled by a man who was as motonless as a statue. Wendi tossed each one a can and they eagerly drank (Karyn getting foam on her--maybe Wendi shouldn't have tossed them), then they gasped, and Jon tried to crawl away from DeMorrell.
"Wendi... Oh, god, I could kiss you," said Jon. "What DeMorrell made me do... You found the antidote to the drug?"
"No," said Wendi. "DeMorrell used a wish to make you obey him. You just think it was a drug because I used a wish to make it that way."
"I don't understand," said Jon, "but you saved us..." She looked at herself and at Wendi, then tried to cover her privates; Jon was a girl now, but she had her normal mind, which told her she did not want to be naked in front of two girls. "Er, look the other way, please?"
Karyn and Wendi looked away as Jon got dressed. Then Wendi continued. "I wish I knew what protections against magic DeMorrell has."
That next wish gave her the answer. He was immune to wishes from both the staff and stone. Quite an oversight there, since she didn't need either.
"I wish that the transformation machine was here, and that it does transforms by my command."
Instantly, there was a harsh red spotlight, embedded in the ceiling, which brightly lit the bed in a shade of burgundy. DeMorrell, caught in mid-action, was directly underneath it.
"I want to get rid of him for good!" exclaimed Jon.
"Me too," said Karyn.
"Well, he wanted to steal me," said Wendi. "So maybe I should do it! Why don't we all decide what to change him into that would keep him from causing trouble?"
