"Now you need a name," Jon said. "I can't just call you 'wishing stone'."
"Why not? That's who I am," the girl said.
"Because it's not a name. It's a description."
"Okay. What would you like to call me?"
Jon thought for a minute, then said half-joking "What about Wendi? Wendi the Wishing Stone." Jon chuckled to himself.
"That's fine," the girl said, slightly smiling again.
"I was just joking."
"I like it."
"Okay. If that's what you want ... Wendi."
"Does it have to have an 'I'?" she asked.
"Huh?"
"The name. Could I have it with a 'Y' instead?" (Wendy instead of Wendi.)
"How do you know which one I was thinking of?"
She shrugged her shoulders. "I don't know. I just do."
Jon wasn't sure what to make of this. Was she telepathic? Of course, the stone interprets wishes when they're made, maybe this was an extension of that ability. The stone couldn't talk and have conversations until now, so perhaps it could be.
"Well, I'd prefer it with an 'I'," Jon said.
"Okay," she said, with that same slight smile, "Wendi with an 'I' it is."
