"Can you wish for more beads? "asked Mikey
"I'll give it a go, " replied Jon. After a few moments, Jon spoke again, "Sorry, it appears to be protected by god-tiered beings. I can't do anything to it."
"Could you duplicate it?" asked Diane.
"Unfortunately, no. It's unique-tier equipment. Sorry you three, but what you have is what you get unless you go to the beings that made it."
Mikey was disappointed that he couldn't get another necklace for Henry, and feeling especially guilty for the bet.
"Mikey, don't worry about it so much. If Henry wanted to take it off in time, he would have. Yes, I can read minds when I want to. Give me a call if you think I can be helpful, good luck with the necklace." And then Jon stopped talking and hung up.
"That....was....AMAZING!" said Penny, "I knew magic existed, but gods, wishes and pocket dimensions? Our world view is so....small."
"It is pretty incredible," agreed Diane, "Your brother has a wish granting rock. We could have asked him for just about anything."
"Just not for the one thing I wanted..." replied Mikey.
"Well, just call him for something else that could do the same job then, " stated Penny.
Mikey looked at her, "Penny, you are a genius,"
"Sorry everyone, but once someone is transformed by the necklace, nothing else works, " Jon's voice said from somewhere in the room, "I looked into all possibilities when I took those 2-3 seconds. There is nothing I can do. Jon out."
"That was a bit creepy," said Diane.
"Maybe we should leave the room, so he can't hear us."
Back in Mikey's room, Mikey took off the necklace, shifted to Michelle and the three stared at it.
"So, we have 3 beads left, the two on here and the one on your necklace Diane. In theory the math should be easy, but... " started Mikey
"I'll just give my necklace to Henry when he gets back. I'd offer to mail it, but I don't want to risk it getting lost in the post. " interrupted Diane.
"So we will share a necklace?" asked Michelle
"Exactly, it'll be less convenient for us but it's best for Henry. We can still be roommates at Deerfield if you stay Michelle, " offered Diane
"We could hang out like the Snap, Crackle and Pop, " suggested Penny, putting her arms around Diane and Michelle, "Or maybe the Fantastic Four, since I'll be rooming with Joann this year."
"Well, sign me up, " said Diane.
"I agree, we should give your necklace to Henry. I'll go to Deerfield as Michelle this year," agreed Michelle.
The other two girls hugged her, and they chatted about some of the stuff they would do together. Michelle liked the sound of movies, videogames and talking, but not so much the nail painting. The last few weeks of summer went by quickly. Mikey got a couple phone calls from Henry. One was after the one date he couldn't cancel, and said the guy brought him to the fish market and they had delicious sushi and saki dinner followed by visiting a video game parlor. The dude was a nice guy from work, that Henry knew before his shift. Apparently, Henry had a second date, as he called a few days later talking about a tempura place he went with the guy. They went to a movie and he reached out to hold Henry's hand, and he didn't want to be rude, so he held it for the movie. Another call was about how the internship changed a bit when he became a girl. They had him do more menial tasks, like set up the conference or get the coffee. He still learned a lot, but it was different at the end. The last call was about having a period was the worst thing he had ever experienced. When Henry got home, Diane gave him the necklace, which is promptly put on and did not ask questions.
Diane and Michelle went to Deerfield after a busy summer.
