"What's taking him so long?" Sarah whined.
"Sarah," Karyn said, agitated by Sarah's impatience.
"Sarah's right, you know. He's been gone a long time. I'm gonna go in and see how he's doing," Zoe said. She opened the door to get out.
"Zoe, wait," Karyn said.
"He's my grandpa, too."
Karyn let her go and waited for her and Jon to come back.
"Grandpa, wake up," Jon said, shaking him.
"Jon?" Zoe said, from behind him.
He turned around and saw her. "It's grandpa. He fainted, but I can't wake him up. I think we should get him back to the car and take him with us."
Zoe seemed like she didn't want that and Jon noticed it.
"Come on, Zoe. I know you didn't get along very well with him, but he's family."
"What could they be doing in there?" Sarah complained again.
"Wait, I see someone," Karyn said.
They watched Jon and Zoe helping an older man walk to the car. The man was barely able to walk, so he was really just being dragged to the car.
"Jon, what are you doing?" Karyn asked.
"We're taking him with us," he said. Karyn didn't argue. She knew how close Jon was to his grandfather. And she knew that if Jon could save him, he would.
They put him in the back seat with Sarah and Zoe, then Jon got back behind the wheel and drove the car down the street.
