Jon looked in the rearview mirror and saw that the wall disappeared, showing the lake that was behind it.
For a time, the wall made Jon think of the movie The Truman Show. When he drove through the wall, he half-expected there to be movie sets and actors rummaging around, as if it were all a put-on.
The thing was, though, it was a put-on. The wall was never really there. It was an illusion, just like the young boy said.
"So, now where do we go?" Zoe asked.
"Hopefully a gas station, but I'm not sure we're going to find one in this place," Jon said, pointing to the fuel gauge, which indicated that the car only had a quarter tank of gas left.
"You mean, we're gonna have to walk?" Sarah complained.
"Probably."
"Ugh," Sarah replied, in frustration.
"But not yet," Jon reassured.
"Jon," Karyn said, looking at the map. "Look at this."
He glanced at the map and saw a red square alongside the black line (which was the road). According to the map, they should arrive at that spot fairly soon.
Jon pressed down harder on the gas to get there quicker.
