Jon was shocked when he saw a metal grate, in the ground. It was poorly covered up by the soil and grass. He put his hands over it and felt warm air moving upwards.
"Shouldn'ta done that," a voice said. Jon turned around, just long enough to see the old man slamming a shovel into his face. Jon fell to the ground, out cold.
A few minutes later, he was woken up by Karyn. "Jon! Oh my god! Are you okay?"
He was dizzy. He saw Karyn leaning over him and Sarah standing about ten feet away, looking not very interested and not very concerned.
"I'm just a little ..." He grabbed his head. "Dizzy." When he removed his hand from his head, he saw that there was blood on it.
"How did this happen?" Karyn asked.
"It was the old man. He attacked me when I found ... found ..."
"Found what?"
Jon got up a little and painfully crawled over to where he saw the grate. But it wasn't there. He pushed a bunch of soil and dirt out of the way, but it still wasn't there. Where did it go? he thought.
"Jon, I think you should rest," Karyn said. "Come on, let's get you back into the cabin. Maybe there's some first aid stuff in there." She looked up at Sarah. "Sarah, help me out here. You're gonna have to help him into the cabin. I can't touch him, remember?"
Sarah sighed and then walked over and helped Jon up. Then they all went back inside the cabin.
