"What did he mean by the stone?" Karyn asked.
"I don't know. But it sounds like I was chosen to be here because of it."
"And why am I here? The stone isn't mine," Karyn pointed out.
"Maybe because you're my closest friend?"
"Could be," Karyn agreed.
"Come on, we have to keep going. Maybe we'll find someone that can help us."
Jon and Karyn walked down the road, then stopped to take another rest after about an hour.
Jon looked around in all directions. He stopped when he saw something. It was smoke. A plume of smoke.
"Karyn. Get up. Look," Jon said, pointing towards the smoke.
Karyn couldn't believe how excited she was to see smoke. Then she remembered something. "Jon. Right before I woke up here, I smelled smoke."
"Why didn't you tell me that?"
"I didn't think it was important."
"Well, it seems that it might be. Come on, let's go see what it is."
They walked further up the road and then turned and then walked through the corn field to where the plume of smoke originated.
