"What are we gonna do, Jon? I don't want to be a bitch like Sarah. I don't want to be a bitch at all. I want to be friends with you forever."
"I know, Karyn. I know."
Karyn was horrified by the idea of her personality becoming more like Sarah's. If she and Jon didn't find that guy before she completely changed, she could be even a bigger bitch than Sarah.
She looked at Jon and had a thought flash through her mind. It was disgust. For just that half of a second, she couldn't believe that she was hanging out with such a loser. She closed her eyes and tried to remember that Jon was her friend, not her enemy. Then the feeling passed, like a forgotten memory.
"Whoa, Karyn," Jon said, looking down at the device the man gave him. "The bar just moved up a bit. Do you feel any different?"
"No," Karyn lied. She thought that if she tried to remember that Jon was her friend, maybe she could beat this.
But, she couldn't. The Wanderer's magic was powerful to begin with. But now, with the stone, his power was infinite. There was nothing Karyn could do to stop him.
Except find where he was in his twisted version of hide-and-seek.
