At the exact moment Jon made his wish, Rachael was just inside the stone's range limit to be affected, since she was family. Before Rachael went to the Madison residence, however, she pulled into a gas station to fill up her car.
"Good afternoon," she said to another woman filling up her car, as she did so herself.
The other woman was about to say the same thing back, but before she could, she dropped the gas nozzle, spilling gasoline on the ground and around her car, and then she grabbed her head, as she became dizzy. The same thing happened to Rachael.
When their heads cleared, Rachael picked up the gas nozzle that she apparently dropped and returned it to the gas pump. She didn't remember dropping it. Then she went and paid for the gas she put in her car and the gas she accidentally wasted. And then off she went. After a tiring day teaching at the elementary school, she was looking forward to a little R&R.;
The other woman (Lydia Warren - previously Mikey Madison's teacher) also didn't remember dropping the gas nozzle. And she also paid for the wasted gas. But she was more impatient about getting back on the road than Rachael was. She came to town to visit some friends and she was anxious to get there.
