Jon put the stone back in its box and left his room to go check things out. He went to his parents' bedroom, but the room was empty and he didn't want to go snooping around in it if he wasn't sure where his parents were.
So, instead, he went downstairs. They were probably watching TV or something.

"Whoa. When did we get that?" Jon asked out loud. It was an HDTV. It must have been pretty expensive. How did his family pay for it?
He looked around some more. He seemed to be the only one home. He checked in the kitchen, the dining room, even the bathroom. No one.
He decided to go downstairs to the basement. Jon's family had a game room down there, for when his dad's friends came over to play cards or something.
When Jon stepped onto the basement floor, he knew that this definitely was not the game room anymore. What he saw looked more like a workout room.
There were shelves of weightlifting magazines and CDs, a couple of sports posters and a calendar of Jon's school's athletic games (with various circled dates) on the walls, an exercise bike, and freeweights. It was his dad's own personal gym.
