Jon closed his eyes and then reopned them. His room appeared to be slightly messier than it had been before. In fact, it was about as messy as it had been yesterday, before his mom had come through and picked up all his dirty laundry. He supposed that his new mother wasn't so in to doing laundry and he stepped out into the hall to fo find her.
He was disappointed however, to find her gone. Checking the fridge, he found a solitary note written in his mother's handwriting that read:
Gone to gym
back @ 6
Sighing, Jon went back upstairs. He supposed he should have expected that. So instead he decided to give his parents' room a more thorough examination.
Walking in, Jon could see that all vestiges of his mother's female fashion and interior design sense had vanished (he would have noticed this throughout the house if he'd been paying more attention). His parents' room had been the most affected. His mother's romance novels and romantic comedy films had been replaced by weightlifting magazines and CDs. A painting had been replaced by a large tac'd-up poster of Jenny McCarthy in spandex on a bike. A calendar of his school's athletic games with various circled dates replaced a mirror. Freeweights took the place of perfume and makeup. It looked like a guy's room, and Jon almost forgot that it was also his dad's room. He wondered how that particular mechanic had changed.
