It rained that night, but the volleyball games were held indoors in the school gym. Filing in with the rest of the soaked crowd, Jon and Karyn did their best to dry off before finding their seats.
Looking around the packed gym, Jon was surprised to see such a good turnout. He had no idea that the school's volleyball team was so popular. But he soon figured out why.
It was Zoe.
She was amazing. Watching her move out on the court, Jon couldn't help but be impressed. Her conditioning, her athleticism, the way she moved, it was like she was a completely different person out there. She jumped higher and played harder than anyone else on the court. She easily led the team in scores in their victory over the Wildcats that night, and Jon heard more than a few remarks about his sister getting scholarships in the next few years.
Despite his previous resignations, Jon was surprised to see Karyn getting into it. What was more surprising, was that he found himself getting carried away as well. By the end of the match, he had been standing up, yelling "YEAH SIS!" at the top of his lungs with the rest of the crowd when Zoe scored the match-winning point off a brutal spike.
After the game, Jon mused on the evening's events. He had never imagined that the school sports could be so much fun to watch and attend. He made a mental note to attend at least one football game once his wish had worn off.
"Your sister is amazing," Karyn told him as they walked out with the crowd.
"Yeah, she really is," Jon replied, trying not to sound so surprised himself.
"You wanna wait for her to get out before we head back?," Karyn said, grabbing Jon by the arm.
"Yeah, sure," he said as they walked towards the gym's side exit.
