"Well, actually, I was wondering if you knew when Dad was gonna be home." His dad had planned on coming home sometime that night. He had just gotten back to Jon's hometown that morning, but had to speak to group of people at one of the downtown buildings. He said that once it was over, he'd try to make it back before dinner. Then they'd have the week together.
"I really don't think he'll be home tonight, Jon. Why did you want to know?"
"Why did I want to know? Because he's our dad."
"Since when did you feel about him this way?"
Her question was confusing. But, maybe it wasn't. He had wished that Zoe's personality be swapped with his father's. So maybe his dad getting Zoe's personality changed things far more than he thought.
"It doesn't matter. If he calls from his meeting, let me know." He turned to leave, but turned back when Zoe spoke to him.
"Um, what meeting?" Zoe asked.
"The meeting downtown. The one that ..." Jon stopped when he saw confusion on Zoe's face. "What?"
"He's not at a meeting, Jon. He's playing at the concert. Tonight. That's why he's not coming home."
"Concert? You mean Dad's with his old jazz band again?" Jon's dad was part of a local jazz band when he and Jon's mom got married. Every now and then, his jazz buddies tried to get him to come back, but Jon's dad was totally dedicated to his work and he always said no.
"Jazz band? Jon, Dad plays in heavy metal band."
"Heavy metal?"
