But then Jon realized that maybe all wasn't lost. He had switched with Athena, a girl who was really into the occult and was even labeled as a witch by some people. Of course, those people were probably being derogatory. But Jon knew for sure that she was interested in the occult, as he had overheard her talking to Zoe one time about it. If it was true that Athena was a witch, then maybe Jon was now one too. And that meant that he had the ability to use magic. At least, he hoped he did. Because otherwise, he wasn't sure how he could get the stone back.

"Jon?" Zoe said, breaking him out of his thoughts.

"Sorry. I was just thinking."

"Thanks for coming by, Karyn. My mom told me to get rid of this stuff myself, but it's too much work for one person."

"It's no problem, Athena," said Karyn. "I'm glad to help. You are my best friend, you know."

Athena smiled. Then she continued to move the boxes aside. They were having a yard sale that weekend and her mom wanted her to move all of these boxes from the attic to the garage, in preparation for it.

"What's this?" Karyn asked, picking up a small red-colored box.

"Oh that? I think that belonged to my grandmother."

Karyn opened it. Inside was a string necklace attached to a small crystal pendant. She lifted it out and looked at it.

"My grandmother used to wear that all the time," Athena said. "She said it was magic."

"Magic?" Karyn asked.

"It was all in her head. Everyone knows magic doesn't exist."

"You should wear it," Karyn said. "I think it would look good on you."

"Karyn, you know I don't like wearing jewelry," Athena said.

"Oh, come on. Wear it. You're just too much of a tomboy sometimes."

"I like being a tomboy, Karyn." She sighed, then took the necklace from her friend. "Fine, I'll wear it. But only for a few days, okay?"

Karyn smiled, then they went back to moving boxes.
