"Uh ... Zoe," Jon said. "Do you know where my wishing stone is?" He felt like he could trust her.
"Isn't it where you left it?" Zoe asked, walking towards one of the bookshelves. She moved a couple of books out of the way and grabbed a small box. Jon recognized it immediately. It was the box that the stone was in when he received it through the mail. Zoe opened it. Inside was the stone and the letter from his grandfather.
Jon sighed with relief. For a time there, he thought that the stone would be lost to him.
"Were you going to use it?" Zoe asked.
"No," he said. "I just wanted to make sure I still had it."
Zoe looked at him oddly. "Why wouldn't you still have it?"
"Never mind." He took the box from her and closed it, then he put it back on the shelf and concealed it behind the books. He turned back towards Zoe. "So, you said something about going out?" he asked her.
"Yeah. Are you still interested?"
"Sure," he said. Now that he didn't have to worry about the stone, he felt that he could safely explore this new reality. He walked towards the door, meaning to leave.
"Uh, aren't you forgetting something?" Zoe asked.
"Huh?"
"Your cloak," she said, grabbing something black from the closet. "I never see you leave the house without it." She gave it to him and he put it on.
He looked at himself in the mirror. Okay, this could be considered unorthodox. The cloak had a hood, making him look like some sort of "dark lord", like the emperor from the Star Wars movies. It was a little unsettling at first, but soon that feeling passed. It was strange, but he actually thought he looked pretty good in it.
"Ready?" Zoe asked.
"Yeah," Jon said. Then they left.
