After five minutes or so, one of the illuminated signs blinked out and the door opened. Jon was surprised to see his dad, Richard, walk out looking almost as apathetic as his mother, shortly followed by Karyn. His dad took a seat next to his mom, and they both started talking quietly to each other. Karyn came over and took a chair next to Jon, her walk seem confident, and when she sat down, her back was straight against the back of the chair, and her legs were apart.
"How do you feel?" Jon asked softly, feeling a real concern.
"Fine thank you." Karyn replied, her tone slightly gruffer than usual, but also with a certain clarity, "How about you?"
"Well, I don't know quite how to explain it." He replied, "But I'm a little concerned about Linda, she hasn't stopped looking at her phone since we left the room, and she's acting a little distant now"
"Well that's because she's got your old personality now babe" Karyn said, putting a hand on his knee, "You never talked with your parents, so now they probably won't talk much to you. I doesn't mean she doesn't love you" She added matter of factly. John sighed sadly.
"I know, but it is a little upsetting. This is something I thought we could share together." He said, a tear forming in his eye. Karyn leaned over and hugged him.
"It'll be fine Jon. You can share it with me instead" She said, and as she pulled out of the hug, she gave him a quick peck on the cheek.
"Thanks Karyn, I feel a bit better" Jon sniffled, " oh look, someone else is coming" he added, indicating another door where the light had just gone out.
