After a few moments, Jon regained his composure. He finished eating with his family and cleaned up the dishes while his father watched tv and "the kids" (as he found himself thinking of Zoe, Mikey, and his mother) went back upstairs to their rooms. Jon then hung out on the couch with his father for a while watching the news, which he suddenly found much more interesting. He ended up snuggling with his dad at the end, something that would have bothered him if it hadn't felt so natural at the time.

After helping Mikey with his homework and making his mother turn off the video games and clean her room, Jon decided it was time to retire. He did still have school the next morning, after all. He wished his mom, Zoe, and Mikey a good night, and resisted the sudden urge to crawl into his parent's bed, instead returning to his own room. Deciding to get some reading in before bedtime, he picked up one of the romance novels off the shelf. "This one's my favorite," he thought to himself before realizing he'd never read it before.

Jon changed into a lavender satin nightgown and crawled into bed with the book. He soon found himself thoroughly engrossed in the novel about a young heiress who had been kidnapped for ransom, only to be rescued by a handsome private detective. He found himself imagining himself as the girl, suddenly being swept off his feet and taken out of captivity by a handsome rugged man. He found himself getting aroused as he imagined himself being held close to the private detective as they made their daring escape and even chuckled at the thought of throwing one of his high-heeled shoes at their pursuers.

By the time he looked up, he noticed it was midnight, way past his bedtime. He didn't feel tired at all, but knew that he had to get to sleep if he wanted to be up for school the next day. He turned his alarm on (not noticing that it was set for an hour earlier than usual), marked his page in the book, and went to sleep.
