Jon closed his eyes for a moment. When he opened them, his surroundings had changed. His room had reverted to what it had looked like a few years ago, when he was Mikey's age, although it now had a few things from Mikey's room as well.
His cds and computer were gone, replaced by scores of action figures, comics, and videogames. The second dresser he had was gone, and a large toychest stood in its place. Inside, Jon found a host of nerf guns, a football, a baseball, some legos, and a pogo stick. He made a mental which ones he would play with later and in what order.
Jon looked at his clothing. It hadn't changed too much. His band t-shirt now sported characters from his favorite anime (the one with the fighting and the robots), and his jeans looked the same. He also noted that his boxers had apparently changed into his favorite pair of Superman underoos.
Jon decided to investigate further and looked under his bed. His stacks of Playboys were gone, and a handful of comics had taken their place, kicked under the bed when his mom had asked him to clean up his room for the thirtieth time. But when Jon thought about it, he didn't really miss them. In fact, he couldn't quite remember what they were for or why he had them in the first place. He wasn't supposed to have them, and all they had were pictures of naked girls. He thought about girls. He had been interested before, but now they all seemed so weird and gross. "Ick," he said out loud to himself. "Why did I want to keep those magazines around?"
Jon wrinkled his nose at that. He knew then that his personality really had changed. He tried thinking about the other ways he might have been altered but found it hard to concentrate. His mind went in ten directions at once and his thoughts refused to stay situated on any one thing. Plus, he had the rock! He had almost forgotten. Why was he worrying about his dumb temporary wish and thinking about the toys in his chest when he could be wishing up new toys? It's not like anything bad could happen, and someone could always fix it and clean up his mess if things did go wrong.
Jon tossed the stone in the air playfully, catching it as it fell. He thought about all the cool stuff he could wish for.
