They went all of 9 minutes away, and pulled into the medical complex. Jon checked in at the desk of the woman's health center and sat down next to his mom.
"Ms Jones?"
"Here," said Jon's mom after a moment. Jon then realized that Ms.Jones was him, rather than Mr. Jones.
"Did you want me to come in, Jon?" Jon shook his head no, and went in. The MA took Jon's vitals and asked about his menstrual history. Jon said he didn't remember, and the MA asked if she could bring back Jon's mom. Jon said sure. Jon's mom told the MA that Jon's first period was at the age of 13, and he had been regular since age 14 and a half. When asked about pregnancies, Jon immediately said none. Jon was lead to a final room and asked to sit on the table. There were a LOT of diagrams in the room. The hormones for a period, a cross section of a uterus, the months of pregnancy. Jon was learning about the ratio of the head of a baby to a woman's cervix at delivery when a doctor walked in.
"Hello young lady. I'm Dr. Nicholas. I'm your mom's gynecologist, and now I get the pleasure of being yours. I actually delivered your brother. What can I do for you, miss?"
Jon looked at the woman, and spoke softly, "My abdomen hurts."
"Jon, if I may. She's had PMS symptoms the last few months. She's missing school. Is there something we can do?"
"There is is Mrs. Jones, and Ms. Jones. Birth control is not just to avoid pregnancy, you see it also regulates the hormones, including the ones that cause pain in the uterus. That's what you are experiencing now Jon." Dr Nicholas pointed to some points on the poster related to a woman's cycle. Jon was fascinated and terrified that it applied to him. The doctor did an exam of his abdomen, and pulled up his sweatshirt.
"Jon, are you a late bloomer?"
"Yes?"
"Well, the birth control may help with that too. I'll start you on a generic daily pill, and I'd like to have you come back in 3 months, but call me sooner if there is an issue. If you have trouble taking them, we can get you the vaginal ring or maybe the patch. Make sure to stay active, because birth control can cause blood clots."
Jon just stared.
"Thank you Doctor. It was good to see you."
"Good to see you too Mrs Jones. Nice to meet you Ms Jones." And then the doctor left.
Jon walked numbly to the car. He had be prescribed birth control. A week ago, the only worry he had about birth control was if the girl was taking it. Now he had to take it. He sat in the passenger seat and clicked in, feeling the seatbelt nestle between his breasts.
"Well, that was mostly painless, huh? I'll swing by the pharmacy to get those." They picked up the pills and went home. He left the car, pills in hand and went to his room. He closed the door and started to cry.
"Jon, I've let myself in. It's ok to cry. Periods are tough, and yours are harder than most. I hope those pills will help. Let me get you the water bottle and something to eat." Jon's mom left. Jon sat up and wiped off his face. He thought about using the stone, but that could make things worse. He thought about his shorts in the basement. He went down and got out the shorts and brought them upstairs. He pulled down the sweatpants, threw off the shirt, and put on his shorts. His pain immediately ended as his penis grew back in. He still had the birth control on his bed. He put that in his underwear drawer and laid on the bed. His mom came in with soup and no water bottle.
"Here Jon, this is to help settle your stomach. I want you to eat something. I know your stomach is upset, but you need to take in something."
"Where's the water bottle?"
"Why would you need that? Zoe and I only use that for when we have our periods."
Jon was a bit confused, before he realized that he was technically a boy right now. He started to think he was understanding what was going on.
