When Jon rematerialzed, he recognized his surroundings. It was The Spiked Pit, the goth club that he had sometimes been forced to drive Zoe to. He briefly caught his mom standing in line to get in, smoking and talking with a couple of friends. He smiled to himself as he wondered if now that his mom smoked, she wanted to make sure that Zoe didn't find out about it.
He hung out in line near his mom, listening to her talk to her goth friends (Jon didn't recognize them) about how this band had sold out and about how living in the suburbs was 'crushing her dark soul' and about how she had been re-reading her Anne Rice novels. Truth be told, he had heard a lot of this from Zoe before and was actually glad when they finally got into the club.
Jon followed them into the club. He'd seen the interior once before when Zoe and her friends had forced him to come in after them when one of them dropped their purse outside. The club was a giant room with a bar along the far wall and a DJ's table in the back corner. There were stand-up tables located all along the walls and a giant "pit" in the middle of the room that sunk down slightly into the floor. The floor was painted red and black, intended to make it look like a pool of blood.
Jon lost track of his mom for a bit and had to work his way through the crowds to find her. When he finally did catch up with her, it was in the corner of the room. There he spotted his mom making out with a much younger guy that he had seen Zoe going out with once or twice before. He couldn't be much older than 15 or 16, but there the guy was, making out with Jon's mom and feeling her up right in front of him.
