Nothing could prepare Karyn for what she'd discover that day. As she went to school, she noticed that it had become an all girls' school overnight. In fact every child in the town was a girl. Reality had been altered so that everyone remembered them all as being born girls. The area in the wish's range was a great scientific mystery. For some reason, mothers in the area were unable to give birth to any male children. Race and ethnicity had no effect on it, it seemed to be entirely geographic, and the most brilliant biologists were at a loss to explain how it was possible.
There were all sorts of rumors; some said it was a chemical in the water, others tried to blame various local food products, there were even a few who claimed it was a Native American spell or curse some shaman cast as revenge for his tribe's persecution. Nobody guessed it was a magic wishing stone used by an offended teenage girl, however.
One unusual thing everyone noticed however is that in the absence of any boys being born in the past 18 years, about half the girls were butch lesbians. In the altered reality, people would often joke about how they would have been boys if they'd been born anywhere else in the world, which got mixed reactions from the lesbians. They never suspected how close they were to the truth.
Karyn went through her morning classes along with the rest of the girls, and the lesbians who for the most part, dressed and acted like boys, finding it strange that there weren't any boys at all. She was thinking there would at least be a couple who didn't act masculine every day, and therefore still be boys, but she didn't realize how masculine the stone considered peeing while you're standing up to be. Later, Karyn met up with Jon, or rather Jen, at lunch. While they were eating together in the cafeteria, Jen was the first to speak, "You know, Karyn, I think I finally managed to work out what you wished for. You're the reason there aren't any boys but just a bunch of lesbian tomboys everywhere aren't you? I'm not stupid you know " she accused playfully.
Karyn smiled, and held the stone in her hand without saying anything. This was the perfect moment to really shake things up. It was time to set the next phase of her plan into effect. "I wish that everyone affected by my last wish except Jon realized they were once boys, but weren't sure how or when they'd been transformed," Suddenly the cafeteria exploded into chaos. It started with some of the girls screaming at the top of their lungs, and then as Karyn looked around the room, she saw some feel for their penises, and crying when they couldn't find them, a large minority casually looked down at their breasts with detached indifference, then went back to eating their lunches.
There was even one who was happy with the change, "Yes I'm really a girl! Oh thank you God, I couldn't stand another day in that male body!!!" she cheered. A lot of people stopped and gave her strange looks after that, but most peoples' attention was on the sudden panic. Adding to the confusion, when some of the transformed boys tried to explain what was going on, none of the adults or original girls believed them, since their minds were still affected by the stone.
Once the noise started to die down, Jen spoke again, "Oh, so in other words, I was right? I really was a boy?" she asked, laughing in disbelief. "All right, Karyn ha-ha, very funny. Now that you had your fun, give me the stone so I can think of a way to fix this," she demanded.
"Not so fast, I wish the stone was back at my house, in a place only I would think to look for it," Karyn wished.
"Karyn! Why would you do that?" Jen exclaimed. "You don't want us all to stay like this forever do you?"
"No, maybe not forever," she admitted, "Just long enough so that you and some of the others can see how 'easy' being a girl really is," she said sarcastically.
"Karyn, are you seriously still on that? You transformed every boy in the town, maybe forever, just to prove a point?" she asked incredulously.
"Aw, what's wrong Jenny? Worried that girls don't really have it as easy as you thought?" Karyn asked teasingly.
"You know Karyn, that was really a horrible wish to make..." Jen said in cold anger. Soon, they'd both learn just how true that was.
