Mickey powered through a stack of pancakes before Linda even heard Jon walking down the stairs. It gave time to school her face as she turned to look at her eldest son who looked closer to her middle daughter.

Jon wore a pair of skinny jeans with a black t-shirt and dark jacket. His blonde hair was pulled back in a low ponytail and she could see just the hint of lipstick or lip balm. "Morning." Even his voice was a little higher.

"Morning Jon," she said, giving him a smile and pretending nothing was wrong. He looked even more like a girl in the morning light. "Any plans for the day? Maybe meet up with Sarah?"

"Maybe," Jon shrugged his shoulders in a move she'd seen Zoe do a hundred times before. He probably wasn't even as tall as his sister. Did she do that to him?

"That could be fun," his mom said as she placed a plate with a single pancake in front of Jon. He took it and started eating slowly, with smaller bites too. "It looked like you had fun with them yesterday, didn't you?"

"I guess," Jon said, after he swallowed. Before she could push him, his cell phone buzzed. She didn't even realize he had slipped it onto the table instead of into his pants pocket. "Speak of the devil," he said when he looked at his phone. "It's Sarah. She's inviting me to spend the day. Something about having some friends over. Its kind of vague."

"That's great!" Linda said. He didn't look happy about it, but he didn't look upset either. "It'll be good to get out of the house for a bit. She say when she's stopping by?"

"Yeah," Jon said, taking swallow several bits of pancake at once before pushing the plate away. "In about ten minutes. I still need to brush and..." He waved at himself."

"There was a nice purse that you brought in yesterday," Linda said, "It should be in your closet." Jon nodded and walked back up the stairs. He was gone maybe five minutes before back with a small black purse. He was shoving his phone as he walked down the stairs. It looked crammed full already so his wallet must be in there. He'd need it since it was the only proof he had that he was 16.

"I need to get some pants with pockets," Jon muttered as he walked past her. She didn't have the heart to tell him he wouldn't find any girls pants with functional pockets, or at least no easily. He could wish them up, but that maybe depended on how the day went.

"Try to have fun Jon," Linda said as she gave him a kiss on the cheek. "You may surprise yourself."

"I guess," Jon said, offering a bit of a smile and a wave before he slipped out the door. She watched him out the front window meet up with a very expensive convertible driven by Sarah. She waved to Linda as Jon climbed in the car.

Hopefully he would behave himself and if he didn't, she could help him out.
