"I wish that there were two devices dispersed to the two most downtrodden students at our high school--those who are frequently picked on and made fun of," Jon said. "One device can control people's behavior, and one can control people's appearances. I wish that these devices would appear to their owners tomorrow morning along with instructions regarding what they do and how to use them, and I wish that Karyn and I would know exactly who has which devices and what they do. And I wish we would always know if someone was trying to use one on one of us but that they wouldn't work on us unless we allowed them to."
"I'm not sure that was a smart wish, Jon," Karyn said when Jon was finished. "But at least you are keeping us protected with that last addition. This might get pretty chaotic, though."
"That's the whole point, Karyn," Jon said with a grin. "It's an experiment. I want to see who gets what and what they do with them. And I want to know who will be corrupted by the power of their device. It'll be exciting."
"Yes, it'll definitely be exciting."
