"Return it to scan mode and give it to me," Jon ordered Karyn.
But she didn't. Instead, she decided to press the screen over the word ERASE. Once she did, the three options at the bottom of the screen were replaced by a phrase: SELECT TRAITS TO BE ERASED, THEN ACTIVATE DEVICE.
So Karyn did just that. She went through and selected what she wanted, then pointed the device at Jon.
"Karyn, I'm warning you," Jon said. "If you don't give me the device ..."
It was at this moment that Karyn pulled the trigger, causing a different-colored beam to shoot out from the device and hit Jon squarely in the head.
