Hello David, and welcome to FOG. I'm Steve, from the interactive entertainment division of the Suny corporation. We've purchased a large amount of virtual real estate in FOG and intend to use it to make our vision of what the Future of Gaming experience should be.

We're looking for intelligent and independent players to work as representatives for us among the rest of the player base. Normally we would hire a professional customer service expert, but we're looking for a real player to fill out the remaining vacancy in our customer service staff to provide the best support possible to the community. If hired, your responsibilities would be to interact with the player community, both as a recruiter for our realm in FOG and to ensure a quality play experience for our players.

In addition to your pay (both in in game currency and real dollars), you will receive an entirely new player character with abilities not accessible to regular players!

I hope you'll accept our offer and look forward to our interview!

I had heard of things like this before. FOG was really more of an infrastructure for a variety of games than a game unto itself. It didn't make sense to have dwarven paladins and cyborgs clashing in the same cyberspace, so aside from Epic City the FOG multiverse was divided into "Realms". Virtual real estate rented both by players and existing game developers who got a share of the profits based on how many players had characters in their version of FOG.

Naturally, each realm would have its own game masters and customer support personnel either made up of volunteers or company employees. But it seemed odd that a company as large as Suny would pick employees out of the mass of players on FOG. And judging from the fact that I had just entered the game this message and others like it were probably being randomly distributed among the player base. They must just be on the verge of opening up their realm and want to test the waters before making too huge of an investment, I figured.

The offer was tempting, I had to admit, despite the work involved. A character with unique abilities, and not to mention being payed to play a game.

But on the other hand, Suzie was still waiting, and I hadn't gotten the chance to experience FOG on my own.

Finally, I decided to...
