Sarah reached out and picked up a dark blue evening gown. Ordinarily, she wouldn't have been caught dead in her Prom dress from last year, but she couldn't think of anything else to wear. She took the dress off its hangar and grabbed a pair of strappy black heels with a three-inch heel. After slipping on the shoes and into the dress, Sarah moved to her jewelry cabinet.
For once, she actually knew what she was doing! Sarah smiled as she picked out a pair of pearl earrings, a gold necklace with an sapphire pendant that perfectly complimented her dress, and a ring studded with small diamonds.
A few moments later, Sarah stood in front of her mirror, admiring her ensemble. Dressed as she was, Sarah looked stunning. She wouldn't have looked at all out of place at a dress ball, or for a night at the opera. Maybe tonight won't be so bad after all, she thought. Until she remembered whom she was about to be out on a date with. That thought quickly put a wet blanket over her thoughts, but she shrugged it off as she sat down at her desk and got out her makeup case.
With a few quick strokes, Sarah expertly painted her face into an elegant and alluring sight. She put part of her hair up into an attractive bun, leaving the rest to drape over her shoulders. Sarah had almost forgotten what she was in for by the time the doorbell rang. . .
