"Leaving for school early today, huh?" Jon heard his mom say suddenly.
She startled him so badly that he dropped the device on the floor, causing it to activate. Before he could even make a reaction, his mother was "vaporized" right before his eyes. Then, just a second later, Jon disappeared as well.
Karyn stood in shock as the entire house changed around her. All of the furniture and the decor changed, and portraits on the walls displayed a completely different family (one she didn't recognize). Jon's mom was erased from existence, so obviously she never lived in this house. Someone else did.
Then, another a second later, Karyn's surroundings seemed to blur into darkness. Before she could wonder what was happening, her surroundings came back into focus, showing that she was back in her own bedroom.
She looked down at the floor, but the device was nowhere to be found. It didn't come with her. Where did it go? Karyn had an unsettling feeling that maybe the device didn't even exist anymore because Jon was the one that created it, and since Jon didn't exist in this reality, neither did the device!
She really hoped that wasn't the case. Because that meant that Jon was gone forever.
