"I wish I had a device that allows me to remove people or objects from reality so that the new reality would be as if they had never existed. Also, I wish that the device could store the targeted people and objects in the device itself, so that I can return them to reality if I want to do so. And finally, I wish that anyone within five feet of the device when it is in use will not have their memories changed to fit the new reality." Jon had always wondered how things would be different if certain people or things had never existed. This was his chance to find out.

After Jon said all of that, an odd-looking gun appeared on his bed. It looked like something out of an old sci-fi movie, except for the small touch screen attached to it. He picked it up and looked at it. On the screen, there were a two options: REMOVE and RESTORE. He pressed the word REMOVE and the screen changed to one word: READY.

"Jon, isn't that kind of dangerous? What if someone takes it and erases you from history?"

"Karyn, you worry too much. I'm gonna have this thing with me all the time. No one's gonna steal it from me."

"I guess you're right. But maybe you should make a wish just in case."

"In a minute. First I want to try it out." He aimed the gun at Karyn.

"Wait, what are you doing?"

He pulled the trigger and a beam of dazzling blue light shot out and hit Karyn squarely in the chest, seemingly vaporizing her. Suddenly, Jon's bedroom changed slightly. He looked around and saw what had happened. The birthday gifts that he had received from Karyn were gone. Since Karyn no longer existed, she never gave him any presents. Also, all of the photos containing Karyn were either different or gone.

He looked down at the device's screen and saw the two main options again. This time he pressed the word RESTORE. The screen changed to one name: KARYN BLACK. He pressed her name and suddenly Karyn was back, just like she was when he shot her. His bedroom was also back to normal.

"I can't believe you used that thing on me!"

"Do you feel any different?" Jon asked.

"No." She really wanted to be mad at him. But he did bring her back. Jon was just trying it out. He wouldn't make it permanent. Right?

After settling down, Karyn asked "Was anything different?"

"You were only gone for about a minute. I didn't really look around. But, yeah. My bedroom looked a little different. Like photos and stuff."

"So, what are you going to use it on next? And don't say me," Karyn said.

"Actually, I was thinking of using it on ..."
