Suddenly, Jon heard a noise. Maybe it was Karyn? After he crawled in that direction, he saw ... a dog?
The dog barked at him when it saw him. But thanks to one of Jon's wishes, he knew that the dog was really Karyn.
I don't understand, Jon thought to himself. The device isn't supposed to work on animals too. But, the more Jon thought about it, the more he realized that he never specified humans as the only targets of the device. Basically, anything that had a body would be swapped, and that included animals. Unknown to Jon, there was a limit to which animals could be swapped. Dogs, cats, birds, squirrels - these were the animals that seemed to swap. Technically, a bumble bee had a body, but for some reason it wasn't included. Perhaps because their brains weren't sophisticated enough. But whatever the reason, things were looking even more worse off than they did before. It was hard for Jon to imagine a baby's mind inside an adult's body. It was even harder to imagine an animal's mind inside a human's body, or vice versa.
With both Jon and Karyn unable to speak, there would be no way to get the stone back. Unless they could get new bodies.
