"Do Sarah," Karyn suggested.
"Actually, I was thinking about doing Gladys Brewer." Gladys was an overweight girl who wasn't very popular, but was still a fairly nice person.
"Gladys? What do you have against her?"
"Nothing," Jon said. "But this device can make her a better person."
"How?"
"Well, for one thing, I could make her more confident. I could also make her more outgoing, maybe she'd have more friends that way."
"But this only changes the memories of the target, right? Not all of reality."
"Well, yeah. It's not the stone. But having new desires and motivations will help her change her life around."
"What if she's fine the way she is?" Karyn asked.
"Everyone has something that could be improved or changed, Karyn. Trust me."
"I do trust you, Jon. I'm just thinking about how Gladys would feel about it."
"After I get done with her memory alterations, she'll probably approve. But what kind of alteration should I make?"
