"All right," said Jon. "I think I know of a way to satisfy everyone. How about this? I won't erase..." Looking at the clone he said "you. But I could erase some things."

"What do you mean?" replied the crossdressed clone.

"I don't want to erase you. You're real enough that you exist now. But I can erase some things about you. For instance, I could erase the dress. Your memories aren't real anyway. Even if you say your memories are real because they're from me and they're real in me, the part about remembering wearing girl's clothing isn't real."

"I remember it... but you're right," said the clone.

"I just have to be more careful what I do. It's supposed to work as I imagine it. It affected your memories because I didn't imagine all the details and it had to do something." Jon held the pencil in the air and then twisted it around so he was moving the eraser. After a few seconds, suddenly the dress disappeared from the clone's body. He was just wearing a pair of boxer shorts. "Do you still remember being a crossdresser?"

"Of course not," said the clone.

"Now," continued Jon, "I draw the dress again, but this time I decide for myself what change to your mind goes with the dress." He flipped the pencil so that the point was pointing away and "drew" a rough dress shape in the air... and all of a sudden the second Jon was wearing a dress again.

"Wait a minute!" exclaimed the second Jon. "I'm wearing a dress!"

"That's right," said Jon. "I erased the dress with the crossdressing memories. Then I gave you the dress again without them."

"What did you do that for?"

"It's an improvement, isn't it? I mean, you don't want me to give you fake memories of wearing dresses, do you?"

"Well, no."

"See?"

"But I'm still wearing one."

"Well, it's not glued to you. Take it off and put on normal clothes."

"But I don't want to."

"See? That's the rest of it. I decided that you won't remember wearing dresses, but you'll still want to wear this dress."

"I... it's all strange. I've never wanted to wear dresses before."

"I just drew you. You never existed before, you never wanted anything before."

Karyn interrupted. "Jon... the first Jon... you know, that doesn't really solve the problem at all. What will everyone say when they see a crossdressing clone?"

"You're right, of course," said Jon. "But we're not in a rush. I just want to try a little bit more erasing and drawing..."

Jon held the eraser in mid-air, roughly pointed in his clone's direction, then turned it around and drew, then erased and drew, erased and drew. "There you go..." he said when he was finished.
